A celebration of silk weaving in Sudbury Suffolk

Discover the long tradition of silk weaving in the town that stretches back to the 1780’s. Records show that by 1844 there were four silk manufacturers and 600 silk looms and it is still a thriving industry today with four working silk mills, Gainsborough Silk Weaving Company, The Humphries Weaving Company, Stephen Walters & Sons and Vanners Silks.

The festival coincides with Heritage Open Days and there will be properties open to the public. You will be able to go inside buildings that were silk weavers cottages and textile merchants houses and visit current silk mill shops.
